Tea Tips

How To Brew Tea

How to brew the perfect cup of tea every time, whether its from a tea pot, single cup infuser or a glass infuser bottle on the go … we have got you covered.

TEA POT

Tea pots are a great way to brew the perfect cup of tea. The loose tea leaves have more room for expansion and circulation than any enclosed infuser, allowing the tea leaves to expand and circulate for a full-bodied infused tea.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1

Fill your kettle with fresh cold water and bring to the boil.

Step 2

Pour a little of the hot water into your teapot and swirl to warm it up – this keeps the teapot at the optimum temperature for the tea. Empty the pot.

Step 3

Add your tea leaves – one teaspoon per cup is the rule of thumb. Pour the boiled water onto the tea.

Step 4

Allow to steep for three to five minutes. Stir, and if your teapot doesn’t have a built-in strainer, use one to pour into your teacup.

TEA INFUSERS

The perfect tea accessory that you can take anywhere and brew the perfect cup of your favourite tea.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1

Fill your kettle with fresh cold water and bring to the boil.

Step 2

Fill the bottom half of the infuser with your tea leaves, then connect back together ensuring it is fastened properly.

Step 3

Place infuser filled with your tea leaves into your cup. Pour the boiled water onto your cup.

Step 4

Allow to infuse for three to five minutes. Remove the infuser from the cup and enjoy!

*Please note, some tea infusers have holes that are too big allowing the tea leaves to escape from the infuser. The leaves themselves are harmless, however if you are not wanting floating tea leaves, ensure your infuser has smaller holes.

GLASS INFUSER BOTTLES

The must have tea ware accessory! Make up your tea and take with you on the go – perfect for hot to cold teas.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1

Fill your kettle with fresh cold water and bring to the boil.

Step 2

Take the lid off your glass infuser bottle and remove the stainless infuser. Open the infuser and spoon in your favourite tea. Screw the infuser lid back on ensuring the lid has been fastened securely.

Step 3

Click the infuser back in the glass bottle and carefully pour the the boiled water into the bottle allowing the water to filter through the infuser.

Step 4

Once the glass infuser bottle is full, you can replace the top on your bottle and take with you on the go and enjoy OR if you are wanting to make a ice tea, simply put your bottle with the infused tea into the fridge and allow to chill.

Happy Brewing!

Instructions on how to brew loose leaf teas is detailed in our brewing instructions article.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Some teas contain caffeine, which needs to be kept under 200mg a day during pregnancy. As a guide, expect a cup of white tea to contain around 15mg per cup, Green Tea 20mg per cup and Black Tea 45mg per cup.

For women who love their Chai Teas, Rooibos Chai is perfect, as it is caffeine free and has no Star Anise. Star Anise is considered safe in small amounts in tea. In pregnancy you would avoid the essential oil of Star Anise or a concentrate.

Masala Chai have some caffeine and a little Star Anise in them, but as a portion of food in small amounts, Star Anise is considered safe.

Cinnamon Apple:  cinnamon in pregnancy has many benefits as a food.  Just avoid cinnamon oil or concentrated cinnamon supplements.

Balance: contains some spearmint and peppermint. Peppermint is very helpful in pregnancy, while spearmint can be used in moderation in pregnancy, and a cup or 2 a day may help morning sickness. Our Tea for Two blend contains spearmint and may be considered safe in pregnancy when taken in moderate amounts eg. 1-3 cups a day.

Lavender is best avoided during pregnancy in medicinal quantities. It is generally considered safe in a tea form, but may possibly be unsafe, so we don’t recommend it in pregnancy.

Lemongrass is also best avoided in pregnancy due to its ability (in high doses) to initiate menstrual flow. It is excellent in breastfeeding though.

Hibiscus is not recommended in pregnancy.

Frequency Asked Questions

Peppermint and Spearmint need to be avoided during breastfeeding in excessive amounts as they can limit milk supply in some women. Small amounts are okay.

Some teas contain caffeine, which should be kept to under 300mg a day during breastfeeding or less if you know your baby is sensitive to the caffeine you drink. As a guide, white tea contains 15mg of caffeine per cup, green tea 20mg per cup and black tea 45mg per cup.  Cacao has some caffeine in it, so keep this in mind for your overall caffeine intake each day.

Lavender is considered as safe as a flavouring in tea during breastfeeding.

Lemongrass, while not recommended in pregnancy, is beneficial in breastfeeding in aiding milk production.

It is best to avoid spicy and strong flavoured teas like chai (Masala Chai) as they can affect the "taste" of your breastmilk.

Business

Organic Certification & Sustainability

Organic Certified Products

Clean Tea uses only certified organic herbs and fruits from Australia Organic Certified supplier 274P. We use a mixture of local and imported goods, carefully hand blended in an organic environment in our factory in Byron Bay.

No herbs used in our teas are sprayed with sulphites.

Sustainability

Clean Tea continues to make practises to reduce their environmental footprint and impact where possible. We recently changed all shipping to recyclable cardboard boxes in an effort to reduce single use plastic mailer satchels.

Our foremost importance for packaging is the safety and quality of our product for our customer. At present plastic stand up pouches at the safest way to store our product with minimal impact on landfill.   Biodegradable packaging would only result in short term shelf life of our product. We continue to research recyclable plastic stand up pouches but many councils in Australia don't have the facilities or infrastructure to recycle them yet. We work with local council and government initiatives to reduce our waste creating in our manufacturing processes.

Health Information

Tea is Food, not medicine

The plant kingdom is an abundant and rich resource for anyone interested in maintaining health and preventing disease. Herbs and herbal teas are a part of that wonderful resource.

Herbs taken as a tea, don’t act as a direct medicine, but as a gentle support for health and healthy function. They form part of our “food” and have been celebrated as such for centuries.

Herbal teas are a safe and gentle way to access the properties of the herbs, as part of our diet.

Herbal medicine, which concentrates the active ingredients of the herb or plant into a herbal tincture, is very different. It needs TGA approval for use and requires a prescription from a professionally trained and qualified Herbalist.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration clearly states that: “Generally a product that is swallowed will be either one form of a therapeutic good (a medicine) or a food.

Often, claims made about a product or the appearance of the product may suggest that it is a therapeutic good. However, the fact that health claims are made about a product does not automatically make it a therapeutic good.”

Therefore, all teas made by Clean Tea are deemed a food with therapeutic benefits and are not medicine nor required to be registered with the TGA.

ALLERGIC REACTIONS – It is the consumers responsibility to check the ingredients for allergies before purchasing or consuming our teas . Clean Tea cannot be held responsible for individual reactions or irritations from a product. We would also encourage you to contact our customer service via email [email protected] if you have any doubt about an ingredient or require further information on any product before purchase.
